Bringing EcoCooks into a classroom involves staff time, prepped materials and lots of coordination. As a small nonprofit organization, Elements Society is committed to keeping environmental education accessible to students regardless of financial capacity. Our programs are supported in part through grants and funding, alongside contributions from participating schools.

To continue offering programs such as EcoCooks, we use a Contribute What You Can model, which invites schools to support the program at a level that reflects their capacity.

 Contribute What You Can explained.

Understanding Elements’ commitment to accessibility.

  • With a Contribute What You Can funding model, you can choose
an amount that works for your budget, even if that number is 0.

  • Regardless of the amount donated, the quality and content of
our programs will remain consistently high.

  • Contributions do not influence program scheduling order. Booking prioritization remains completely equal.

  • Many school districts have funding or grant opportunities that can help offset classroom programs and external learning experience, such as EcoCooks.

    Begin locating grant opportunities here.

  • PACs often oversee fundraising for school needs and can sometimes allocate funds towards special programs, such as EcoCooks.

  • Administrators may know about internal funds, discretionary budgets or school-level grants that could support EcoCooks.

  • Organizing a class-based or school community fundraiser can be an effective way to raise funds for programs like EcoCooks.

  • Teachers may choose to invite families to support external programs, such as EcoCooks, as an opportunity to enhance their child(ren)s environmental education.

I have changed my views on food. I understand how much food is wasted, and I will choose to try my best not to waste it.”

EcoCooks Student

“Thank you so much for all that you do to teach our kids about the environment. We really appreciate the hard work you put into making the lessons fun, engaging and interactive. You are making a difference in the lives of our students!”

Teacher

“The hands-on experiential cooking is a great way to show that low carbon food does not have to short change flavour, colour, or enjoyment!”

Teacher

We need every student in Canada being exposed to this program! And through those students, the hope is that their families would also be affected.”

Teacher

““My students thoroughly enjoyed the program. Each lesson began with a Land Acknowledgment which is so important. The program was fun and engaging. The lessons incorporated several cross-curricular connections between Food Studies, literacy, math and science. Many families struggle with food insecurity and the lessons about reducing food waste were extremely relevant and impactful. The recipes the students prepared allowed them to try new foods and were thoughtfully chosen to encourage students of all backgrounds and abilities to participate. The EcoCooks program provided opportunity for the students to think critically and discuss the food they consume everyday. The program was able to model how to incorporate environmental stewardship in little changes we can all make everyday.”

Teacher
